o The Arches (Chester) Report. 2005. The Arches in the Chester/Bancroft area of the Berkshires of western Mass, is an area which has been used for sunclad recreation since the 50's, at least, and probably for hundreds of years before that by aboriginal people. The Arches is a set of stone bridges along the West Branch of the Westfield River, the longest river in Massachusetts by virtue of its 4 branches, the East, Middle, Dead, and West. The arches were designed and built over 150 years ago by Whistler's Father, we kid you not, the father of artist James Abbott Whistler, 1834 to 1903, who is known best for his famous painting, "Whistler's Mother". Called keystone arches, these bridges, like the ancient pyramids of Egypt, use no mortar or any other kind of binding material. They're held together entirely by gravity and while they're unsuitable for long spans, they are capable of spanning very deep ravines, up to 100' in the case of Chester/Bancroft... o Eastern Naturist Gathering Report. August 19-25, 2002. Eastover Resort, Lenox, Massachusetts Mrs. Oldtimers and I have just returned from our fourth Gathering at Eastover Resort, and once again, it was exactly what we expected - a good assembly of events, a hospitable Eastover staff, and a fine organizational effort put forward by the staff of The Naturist Society (TNS). Eastover converts itself from a textile resort to a clothing-optional one or the six and a half day gathering each year. Thus, you find all the amenities found in traditional resorts of their type... o Knightville Dam. 2004. Knightville Dam Flood Control Area, Huntington, Mass. has extremely high potential for naturist use. It's been going on sparsely since the mid 50's at least that we know of. Whether this area becomes highly popular will depend on Naturists' behavior; be on your best if you go. Park well off the road. Leave no litter; take out any you find. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, if any inappropriate behavior of any kind is seen, do what it takes to stop it. The Army Corps of Engineers oversees Knightville, knows about the nudity, and will probably continue to accept it, even if it occurs in large numbers, but we know several of these people personally. We can guarantee if people go there and decide to be sexual in public that the tow trucks will come THAT DAY (= a "make up the rules as they go along" situation and basically those in charge can do anything they want, and do) and the place will be lost forever just like so many others... o Little River Gorge, Massachusetts, Report. 2004. Little River Gorge ranks with the best of the best, ideal for camping wildernuders. Its location is the key--several panoramas, including famous Noble View up to 800 feet deep, off a dead end dirt road adjacent to an Appalachian Mountain Club Lodge and trails, and smack dab in the middle of huge tracts of adjoining private and public land. For ten years as a youngster, Bill swam nude in The Gorge (not to be confused with Granville Gorge a few miles Southwest) with same sex groups of Boy Scouts and YMCA Day Camp members. As an adult, living about a half hour walk away, he spent many quiet hours there in idyllic social nudity with women house mates who'd become Naturists after experiencing the healthy choice with him... o Moshup Beach at Martha's Vineyard (Massachusetts) Report. Summer 2002. For those of you that haven't been to Moshup's Beach at Gay Head on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, you are missing out on one of the best beaches in the Northeast. Not only is the beach itself a piece of paradise, but there are a good group of regulars that will help to make you feel welcome. It is not the easiest of places to get to, but certainly worth the extra effort to do so. For those of you unfamiliar with Martha's Vineyard, there are ferries that will run from Wood's Hole in Falmouth, as well as from New Bedford or Hyannis... o Nantucket Island Report. 2002. Nantucket... with 80 miles of beaches there is ample room for discreet topfree and nude use. On the parts of beach you can drive, vehicles can be creatively positioned as privacy breaks and wind breaks. Miacomet is the recognized venue for nude use. This beach is on the south side of the island close to the pond of the same name. It is east of the pond and west of the small hamlet of Surfside, with it's more well known (clothed) beach. Walking time along the beach from the nude area to Surfside, which has restrooms and a snack stand, as well as umbrella rentals, is about 20 minutes(about 3/4 mile). The nude area is much smaller now than it was in the eighties, due to changing demographics, and the greater number of vehicles roaming the beach, mostly filled with families who enjoy a giggle when spotting the "naked people". Still it has never deterred those of us who have gone there for ten or twenty years. No one complains. Nantucket Police on ATV's patrol and enforce the requirement that vehicles have the current season's beach sticker. In theory, glass is not allowed... (click link to read the rest of the report.)
o Sandy Terraces Report and Cypress Cove (Florida). 2001 Both my wife and I have visited Cypress Cove in Florida and Sandy Terraces located on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and enjoyed them both. Plan on seeing how many we can visit in out travels. Both enjoy being nude, last year was our first, but it won't be our last. Thanks Jack and Millie for the report!
